Manchester United’s poor form continues. Red Devils fail at Brighton, conceding three goals

Manchester United lost their second game in a row after losing to Arsenal, this time at home to Brighton 1:3. Manchester gave a very poor team performance, with only Marcus Rashford standing out.

In the sixth minute, Jason Steele was in possession for the first time, he managed to knock out Marcus Rashford’s shot. Four minutes later, Tariq Lamptey tried his luck from distance, but shot well over the bar.

In the 20th minute Brighton struck relatively out of the blue, a centre from the right was easily cleared to the left post by Danny Welbeck. Rashford could have equalised, but his goalbound volley was stopped by the blue and white wall of bodies.

The England international threatened for the third time in the 34th minute, but his shot was knocked onto the bar by defender Joel Veltman. When Rashford did manage an assist six minutes later, Rasmus Hojlund’s goal was void as the ball left the field of play before being passed.

Rashford’s last shot in the first half didn’t end up between the three posts either, so it was 0:1.

Right after the change of sides, United got their second goal, Pascal Gross found the back of the net and doubled the visitors’ lead.

The home team continued to threaten only through Rashford, but his two further endings did not bring success either. On the other hand, in the 71st minute, Brighton used three passes to get from their own goal to the opposition’s penalty area, from where Joao Pedro celebrated his success.

Hannibal Mejbri, the home midfield talent, was quick to reply from distance and the Red Devils were back in the game for a point. Still, Brighton finished the game expertly, not lending the opposition the ball for more than a minute.

Ansu Fati was still saved by André Onana in stoppage time. After the 3:1 win Brighton jumped to fourth place in the table with 12 points, Manchester United is 12th after two wins and three losses.
