Mario Balotelli has terminated his contract with Swiss side Sion, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano. He is currently a free agent, but according to the latest information, Turkish club Adana Demirspor has expressed interest in the services of the former Italian international.
It was from this club that Balotelli transferred to Sion at the end of August last year, currently the Swiss second league club paid more than 2 and a half million euros for him.
The native of Palermo came to Sion as a big reinforcement, the club’s management promised a lot of goals from him. After all, he scored 18 league goals in 31 appearances for Demirspor.
However, that didn’t quite happen, Balotelli scored only 6 goals in 18 games, moreover, he didn’t help the club with their rescue in the Super League. Sion finished the 2022/23 season at the bottom of the league table, having collected 31 points.
They lost a single point to ninth and rescuing Winterthur. In the subsequent barrage, Sion’s footballers also failed, falling to Stade Lausanne-Ouchy.
A turbulent year in Sion
Balotelli had a truly tumultuous year at Sion and made several headlines, often with the Swiss media writing about him in a negative light. In the case of the thirty-three-year-old striker, however, this probably comes as a surprise to few.
So, after several escapades, which we wrote about in a previous article, it became clear during the year that Balotelli would not even stick at the club that was relegated from the Super League.
His end at Sion was therefore inevitable, with the club’s sporting director Barth Constantin himself admitting in recent times that engaging Balotelli was a disastrous mistake from the start.
