Spanish football is rocked by yet another scandal with sexual overtones. According to Spanish media, three Real Madrid players were allegedly arrested for allegedly spreading sexual content of an underage girl among themselves via WhatsApp.

Luis Rubiales will probably regret his actions for the rest of his life. After Spain’s victory at the Women’s World Cup, an avalanche of resentment erupted when the head of the Spanish Football Federation kissed player Jeni Hermoso on the mouth during a congratulatory ceremony.

Although he initially claimed that he would definitely not resign from his post, his ill-advised action caught up with him a few days ago and Rubiales announced his resignation. The whole of Spain was involved in the affair and the former Spanish football boss will even have to explain his actions in court.

But just days after his resignation, Spanish football is dealing with another scandal. On Thursday evening, the Spanish sports website El Confidencial reported another affair with sexual overtones.

Spanish police have reportedly arrested three Real Madrid players. They were allegedly involved in the unauthorised distribution of sexual content with an underage girl. According to the source, the case stems from a police complaint filed in the Canary Islands in early September by the victim’s mother.

Although the source did not name the accused players, they are said to be players from Real Madrid Castilla’s reserve team and Real Madrid C’s third team.

It was a player from the latter squad who was alleged to have filmed sexual content with a 16-year-old girl and the others were supposed to have shared it via the mobile app WhatsApp without the victim’s consent.

The three youths were arrested by police authorities in Madrid in the early hours of Thursday and an investigation is currently underway. The club’s website then released an official report in the evening, which shows that a total of four players are under investigation.

“Real Madrid wishes to announce that it has learned that a Castilla player and three Real Madrid C players have made statements to the Civil Guard in relation to a complaint about the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp,” the official statement read.

“When the club has detailed knowledge of the facts, we will take the appropriate measures,” the statement added. The coming hours and days will surely tell more. However, it is certain that Spanish football has suffered another huge blow.
