Will Vettel return to F1? I can’t say no, he admitted. The four-time champion said what will matter most

Sebastian Vettel retired from Formula 1 at the end of last season and has no plans to return to the sport anytime soon. The interesting news for fans of the queen of motorsport, however, is that he is not ruling out the option of resuming his career…

German racer Sebastian Vettel has, of course, been most famous during his career with Red Bull, winning four championships between 2010 and 2013.

He moved to Ferrari for the 2015 to 2020 seasons, having just left for Aston Martin after a very unsuccessful final season.

There he spent the last two years of his active career, and rather than fighting for wins and podiums he was already primarily giving away experience.

But Vettel clearly misses racing. The German took part in the Race of Champions in 2023. He last raced his then-Red Bull monocoque, with which he won the title in 2011, on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife.

Well-known journalist Martin Brundle then asked Vettel if he was keeping himself in racing shape. The four-time world champion replied that yes, he was and that he was still feeling good.

A return to F1? I can’t say no!

“Yes, but because I want to, not because I want to come back. Or maybe if someone drops out, I’ll come back. I think my neck is not in ideal shape (for an F1 race – ed.), but everything else is, I would say, pretty good,” Vettel said in an interview with Sky Sports.

Brundle then listed all the iconic drivers who have left F1 but have returned after some time away. They include Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Niki Lauda.

“I can’t say no because you don’t know, ” Vettel said when asked if he would return to the queen of motorsport after all. “I guess it depends on what the challenge is. But I don’t have it in my head right now and I’m just enjoying the prospect of what’s next,” he concluded.
