Paul Pogba is going through the worst period of his career. After his return to Juventus last year, he has played practically nothing and now he has another problem. He has tested positive for doping.
Paul Pogba’s return to Juventus is not going well at all. When he returned from Manchester United last summer, he hoped to build on the performances he gave his first time here.
But he was injured for almost all of last season and only featured in six league games. He missed the start of the new season when he was injured again. In the first match against Udinese he was only on the bench, but he was still selected for an anti-doping test.
And now it’s been revealed that Pogba failed. According to Italian agency ANSA, the French midfielder tested positive for testosterone. Testosterone helps to build muscle and has been banned in all sports and labeled as doping.
Juventus have already officially announced that they have agreed to a suspension for the 30-year-old midfielder, which was requested by Italy’s National Anti-Doping Court.
Pogba will now be able to appeal and request a counter-analysis in the coming days. If the positive finding is confirmed in this case as well, his case will be considered by the Italian National Anti-Doping Court.
And how many years without football does Pogba face? In the case of doping, the anti-doping courts are ruthless. Pogba could be without football for up to two years, but the punishment could stretch to four years if it is proven that the athlete doped intentionally.
So Juventus cannot be happy at all with Pogba’s return for now. The Frenchman is the highest-paid player in Serie A, having played a total of just 200 minutes and missed 54 games in a year. Now, on top of that, he’s facing doping charges.
