In the second round of the US Open, the two successful qualifiers will face off. Jakub Mensik will challenge Titouan Droguet from France. The Czech tennis player is a slight favourite to advance, can he confirm this role?

Jakub Mensik is having a very successful season. This year he managed to conquer the ITF tournament in Trnava and the challenger in Prague. The training sessions with Novak Djokovic certainly helped him.

The 17-year-old Czech tennis player benefits from a great serve, so the hard surface suits him. At the US Open, he is making his debut at Grand Slam tournaments, and we would be looking for a younger player in vain.

In qualifying, Mensik surprisingly managed to deal with Fognini, Riedi and his compatriot Kolar. In these matches together he lost his serve only four times, twice in the opening set with Fognini.

In the main event, the draw assigned him Barrere from France. Despite his unconvincing form, the fifty-nine year old ATP ranked player was considered the favourite, but after losing 4:6, 6:4, 6:7 and 2:6 he had to immediately say goodbye to the tournament.

In the second round the rising star of Czech tennis will meet Titouan Droguet. He also made it to the main stage of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time ever. In the qualification he faced Garin, Sandgren and Coppejans.

Even in the main stage the lot was not merciful to him. In the first round he faced Lorenzo Musetti, the 18th player in the ATP rankings. The Frenchman won the five-set battle, winning the deciding set 6:2.

So we can look forward to a very interesting duel in the second round of the US Open. Mensik will enter the match as a slight favourite, but he certainly cannot underestimate anything. Droguet can’t rely so much on his serve, but he should be the better player in longer exchanges. That’s why I expect him to advance.

Betting tip | Droguet advances at odds of 2.22
