Trouble in paradise? Benzema has a dispute with the coach, he didn’t want him at the club and doesn’t want to put him in the starting line-up
He came as a star signing, the last Ballon d’Or winner, a Real Madrid legend. Karim Benzema is one of the biggest stars to leave Europe and head to Saudi Arabia. But he’s running into a nasty problem.
He came as a star signing, the last Ballon d’Or winner, a Real Madrid legend. Karim Benzema is one of the biggest stars to leave Europe and head to Saudi Arabia. But he’s running into a nasty problem.
Al-Ittihad was one of the Saudi clubs that hunted hard and successfully for new signings in Europe during the summer. Names such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, Fabinho and Jota were added to the squad.
But problems are starting to emerge. The first negative news was about Jota. He is reportedly not a big enough star and could probably leave the club later in the summer.
In the last few days, there has been a lot of talk about Nuno Espirito Santo’s relationship with Benzema. There was supposed to be a clash between the two and because of that, the atmosphere in the cabin is now understandably tense.
According to local media outlet Asharq Al-Awsat, Santo did not want Benzema to strengthen Al-Ittihad in the first place.
So the Portuguese coach does not want to put Benzema in the starting line-up. He says he cannot offer the team what he is looking for. After all, Benzema has already spoken publicly about the unprofessional treatment by his coach.
The situation was not helped by the fact that the Ballon d’Or winner was supposed to be the captain. Benzema agreed to accept the captain’s armband, but Santo instead passed the captain’s armband to Romarinho, who is seen as a club legend.
Benzema should have already called on the club’s management to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. However, it won’t be a surprise if the situation is brushed off by the Portuguese coach.
