Jiří Procházka lost his opponent. He was supposed to fight for the UFC championship belt again this fall, but Jamahal Hill announced news of a long-term injury. What’s next? Martin Karaivanov, Procházka’s coach, tried to explain this to the public.

Dana White enticed the public that the announcement of the date of the Hill vs. Procházka fight is near. But shortly before the official announcement came a huge blow.

The reigning champion Hill tore his Achilles, so he won’t be able to fight in the next few months. He’s facing surgery and a longer recovery, which is why he decided to vacate the title.

Prochazka made the same move and the public is now wondering what will happen next. The title fight should clearly go to a Czech fighter and a replacement will probably be sought, but there are also concerns that two fighters who have already been matched up for the title will not go for it.

“We didn’t know about it, so it’s also news for us. We’ll start figuring out what and how to do next. In the welterweight division, there’s a Blachowicz vs Pereira fight (UFC 291 – July 29) where we’ll be looking to make sure that fight isn’t a title fight.

Just from a moral and historical standpoint, so we can fight for that title first. There’s a possibility that the winner of Blachowicz vs Pereira would go for the title with us, which probably wouldn’t be until November. Or the other possibility is Ankalaev in Abu Dhabi in October. There again, it depends on what Magomed’s relationship with the UFC is and if they would give the nod.

There are more options of course, but for now we’ll have to wait. These three points are pivotal. I’ll wait until they’re in America in the morning and we’ll start negotiating. Of course, much respect to Hill, who has acted the way he has and vacated the title. Respect indeed,” Karaivanov told MMA Shorties.

We’ll have to wait a while for more information, as Prochazov’s team doesn’t have it either. There are plenty of possibilities and even fans around the world will want to see the Czech samurai go for the belt.
