Jaromir Jagr is undoubtedly one of the NHL’s greatest legends. Logically, he is responsible for some of the most memorable moments in history. In the 1992 Stanley Cup Finals, he took out the entire Chicago defense.
Memorable Moments is a special project by Ruik that commemorates the most iconic moments that have happened in hockey. Today, we look back at Jaromir Jagr’s beautiful goal.
At the time of the memorable goal, Jagr was still a youngster. Pittsburgh drafted him fifth overall in the first round in 1990.
In his first season with the Penguins, Jagr won the Stanley Cup. But as they say, it is much harder to defend the trophy than to win it, and with this goal in mind, Pittsburgh entered the next season.
Once again, the Penguins reached the finals, where they faced Chicago. In the very first game Jagr’s team didn’t do well, losing to the Blackhawks 1: 4, Chicago was a much better team.
Five minutes before the end Jagr got the puck just before the blue line, got rid of all five Blackhawks players and backhanded the puck into the net.
He cut the lead to 2:4, which was crucial after that. The Penguins were able to tie the game and Mario Lemieux scored the decisive goal with 15 seconds left.
Pittsburgh then went on to win the game 4: 0 to win their second Stanley Cup in a row. Jagr also became the youngest player in NHL history (19 years old) to score a goal in a Stanley Cup Final game.
