Ons Jabeur is currently ranked sixth in the WTA rankings. The tennis player from Tunisia currently has 3,787 points. Her career high is the second position from the end of June last year.
Before the start of Wimbledon, the twenty-eight-year-old Tunisian played only three matches on grass. She failed to beat the home team’s Niemeier in Berlin, while her only win came against Paolini in Eastbourne. She then lost in two sets to Italy’s Giorgi.
Last year, she played in the final of the most famous tennis tournament in the world. She won the first set against Rybakina 6:3, but after that her opponent’s performance improved significantly and Jabeur is still waiting for her first Grand Slam triumph.
This year, in the first two rounds, she managed to beat her opponents without any major problems. Against Frech and Bai she lost only eight games. She had more difficulties only against Andreescu, who she lost 1:3 in the deciding set. But in the end she showed strong mental resilience and won 6:4.
Petra Kvitová, currently ninth in the WTA rankings, will face her on Monday. The tennis player from the Czech Republic is most successful on grass, where she won both Grand Slam trophies. Now she would like to complete her golden hat-trick.
She came to the All England Club in a good mood, as she managed to dominate the tournament in Berlin without losing a single set. At Wimbledon, she had only a slight wobble in the first round when she lost the second set against Paolini.
In the other two matches she did not lose a single set, which saved her physical strength. The native of Bílovec has played against Jabeur five times, leaving the court only once as a loser. Considering the statistics of the matches and her current form, I expect Kvitova to win.
