Only, in the winter, Gordon decided he wanted to leave Everton and he made it clear with his behaviour. So the English club in big trouble had no choice but to sell their great talent. And Newcastle took advantage of this, bringing him in for just under 46 million euros in January.

Gordon has played every game for The Magpies apart from two league games due to an ankle injury, although mostly only for a few minutes. He then scored his first goal in the last league game of the season when he secured a point for Newcastle in their draw with Chelsea.

Gordon was subsequently invited to play for England at the Euro U21, where he assisted in the opening match against the Czech Republic and helped them to a 2-0 win. Against Israel he scored the winning goal for England and in the quarter-final his accurate shot into the Portuguese net was the advancing goal.

The 22-year-old winger didn’t score any more points, but he was always a very valuable member of the squad on the pitch, which eventually went on to win the tournament. That’s why he was rightly voted the player of the Euro U21 tournament that ended on Saturday.

Season 2023/24

The speedy Englishman is very popular with the coaches for his versatility, which coach Eddie Howe was keen to exploit from the start. Whether he plays in the middle of the park or as a winger on the left or right side is irrelevant. At least for now.

Gordon’s performances are improving game by game. Moreover, for his age, he has already collected 81 league games in which he managed to score 8 times. He still has a lot of room for improvement, however, it seems that the move to Newcastle was absolutely perfect for his further development.

Therefore, one can count on Gordon to continue to pick up important minutes on the pitch. However, it will also all depend on whether Newcastle somehow strengthen significantly in the attacking phase yet, which could reduce his importance. But given the way Howe and co. are progressing, some big moves are not expected too much.

So for Gordon, the mark is ideal. So the best player at Euro U21 will definitely be interesting to watch next season. In addition to the home games, Newcastle will also feature in the Champions League.
