It’s been speculated for a long time, now it’s an officially confirmed fact. We’re going to see a duel between two legends of combat sports. The UFC has officially announced that Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will step into the cage against Sosa later this year.

The legends will face off in a legendary venue. Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will do battle in a heavyweight bout at the UFC 295 gala in New York City, which will be hosted at the famous Madison Square Garden.

While Jones has long been regarded as the best fighter in MMA history, Miocic, for a change, is one of the best heavyweights in the history of the sport. He previously fought Daniel Cormier for the title.

But there’s a catch. While Jones has been preparing to move up to heavyweight for quite some time and immediately destroyed any doubts in his debut there when he easily and handily handled Cyril Gano, we know absolutely nothing about Miocic’s status.

Jones is the champion, he’s in the position he’s used to. He’s not losing, title defenses? He’s right at home in those. He’s in great shape, he’s got it in him. Plus, the Gano fight was in early March. The three-year break doesn’t seem to have done him any harm.

It’s just that Miocic, who last got his hands on former champion Francis Ngannou, who left for the PFL, hasn’t fought in more than two years. He’s become a professional firefighter, but where does he stand with his wrestling form?

Jones has worked long, hard and honestly during his hiatus. He made sure he was able to make the transition to heavyweight. Did Miocic have it right?

Plus, we have to mention the fact that Miocic will turn 41 in August, which may be too much even for the top heavyweights, where fighters generally peak in their later years. Plus, a long layoff at 40 may be a bit more difficult to overcome. Jones will soon be 36.

So fans are a little dubious about the fight. For the reasons mentioned, it doesn’t make much sense to them that Miocic is going to fight Jones right after the break. But he has nothing to lose. On the contrary. We’ll see the duel on November 11th.
