Christopher O’Connell from Australia will stand in the way of the Czech player in the third round. He is currently ranked 73rd on the ATP rankings. His career high is 70th place from this June.
Before the start of Wimbledon, he had two wins on grass. At the tournament in Stuttgart, Germany, he surprisingly defeated both Sonega and the local Altmaier. He lost to Hurkacz, Moutet and Kudla.
In the first round of the most famous tennis tournament he found a recipe for a successful qualifier Medjedovic from Serbia. The Australian won after sets 7:5, 6:4, 4:6 and 6:4. He managed to take advantage of half of the break point opportunities in the match.
Jiri Vesely is currently ranked 528th in the ATP rankings. At Wimbledon, however, he did not have to enter the qualification fights thanks to the protected ranking, which is set up just for players who could not play in the previous months due to health problems.
Before the start of Wimbledon, the twenty-nine-year-old Czech played two duels on grass, but was not able to beat Harris or Peniston. Expectations were certainly not high.
However, the Příbram native provided one of the biggest surprises of the first round. In four sets he defeated Sebastian Korda, who was seeded twenty-two. Veselý scored 23 aces in the match.
If he can continue to do well on his serve on Friday, we can expect an even match. However, the favourite to advance is the tennis player from Australia, who should have the upper hand in the longer exchanges. He will most likely be better physically as well.
