Zadina has requested a change of organization! If another NHL team doesn’t take him, he’ll stay in Detroit

Filip Zadina is on the waiver list. He was not on the non-waiver list because Detroit didn’t want him, the Czech forward asked for a change of organization.

The waiver list is a list of unprotected players where teams can put unwanted players that other teams can acquire within 24 hours without any compensation, just with the obligation to assume a valid contract.

It is customary that if no takers are found within 24 hours, the player goes to the farm. But that’s not the case with Filip Zadina.

The Czech forward asked to be placed on the waiver list on his own. The former great talent has failed to fulfill his potential in Detroit and the vast majority of experts and pundits think he would benefit from a change of scenery.

Five years ago, Zadina went sixth in the draft, and the Red Wings had a lot of confidence in him. But the 23-year-old forward hasn’t shown his potential in the NHL yet, putting up just 7 points (3+4) in 30 games last season.

The whole situation with the waiver was then clarified by Detroit GM Steve Yzerman. At the press conference he let it be known that Zadina himself asked for a change of organization and a fresh start with another team. But Yzerman has seen a shift in him, still sees potential in him, and if no team takes him, he will report to camp in Detroit normally.

Yes, Zadina has definitely not lived up to expectations so far, but there is still a lot of shooting potential in him. He’s under contract for two more seasons with a cap hit of $1.8 million, so if a team were to take him, give him a chance and “wake him up”, it could be a cracker.
