LCS: Could FlyQuest be looking forward to better times? After a disastrous start, two wins in a row

The American LCS kicks off its third, three-day week. So far, we’re seeing a renaissance of sorts from a team that has had its worst start in history.

While it doesn’t look like it at times, the American League can write interesting stories as well. The league is currently writing one. FlyQuest, a team of great ambition, with star Korean imports Vicla and Prince, has not experienced a split start at its best.

We can trace the entire crisis of the unit, which before this week had not won a game yet and with a 0-6 record, was clearly crouching at the bottom of the league, to the spring split.

It’s the last third of the regular season of the LCS spring split. FlyQuest is clearly dominating the league and, despite minor shortcomings, the team doesn’t seem to be losing any ground. Then came the fateful first place match with Cloud9, and since then the team has struggled with a drop in form.

You could say one loss doesn’t mean anything. Unfortunately for a team with big LCS ambitions, a wild ride began as the team not only failed to advance to MSI but also failed to make it to the LCS finals.

With hope and getting back on track, the team went into the summer split to repair their reputation. The result? The team completely slept through the start of the league and lost their first six games. Their chances at Worlds immediately fizzled out in the face of competition from teams that were going up in performance.

Wednesday’s match against Team Liquid was ironically favoured by a team that finished eighth in the spring, with no hope of making the playoffs. However, in a critical clash between two teams that rely heavily on Korean imports, FlyQuest won as if by magic.

Coincidence? FlyQuest beat NRG the next day and talk of the return of the team that was supposed to win trophies begins. We’ll see how the team continues to do, of course it’s far from ideal. What is certain, however, is that the team has not yet said the last word in the LCS.
