Czech tennis in the men’s category is waiting for more success after the end of Tomas Berdych. According to this year’s results, Jiří Lehečka could achieve them, but Jakub Menšík is also a great promise for the future.
The current Czech tennis number one is Jiri Lehecka. He is currently ranked 36th on the ATP rankings. The twenty-one year old tennis player played in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this year and reached the semifinals in Doha. He can still fight for the participation in the Tournament of Champions.
Perhaps even more will be expected from Jakub Mensik in the future. The tennis player, who will come of age on 1 September, is currently 212th in the ATP rankings. In the under-18 category, no one is better off, with Prizmić from Croatia in second place.
If we count the tennis players who will soon be 19 years old, we find the Prostejov native in second place.
Only Juncheng Shang, who recently played the first round of the French Open, is doing better. He is ranked 162nd on the ATP rankings.
In the under-20 category, the Australian Open junior finalist from last year is in sixth place. Ahead of him, however, are players such as Arthur Fils and Luca Van Assche, who belong to the elite 100.
Undoubtedly, Menšek’s biggest weapon is his great serve. Thanks to it, he won the ITF tournament in Trnava in April this year in an indoor environment. During his journey to the title he did not lose a set.
But his biggest success came a month later. The lanky tennis player won the challenger title, moreover in his home environment. In Prague, he defeated Dominik Koepfer in the final after 6:4 and 6:3 sets.
If he continues to perform like this, he could play the ATP Next Gen Finals at the end of the year, a tournament for the top eight players under 21. He is currently ranked seventeenth, with Dalibor Svrčin ranked eleventh.
