Valencia’s merry-go-round continues. The owner has sacked coach Gattuso, the third one, completely incomprehensibly
Valencia’s crazy leadership continues. Hated owner Peter Lim has fired another coach who didn’t even finish the season. Gennaro Gattuso is out at the Estadio Mestalla, it’s just that finding a new coach now will be extremely difficult.
Valencia’s crazy leadership continues. Hated owner Peter Lim has fired another coach who didn’t even finish the season. Gennaro Gattuso is out at the Estadio Mestalla, it’s just that finding a new coach now will be extremely difficult.
There is no end to the merry-go-round at Valencia. The fans are unhappy, the management is constantly destroying the club with their crazy moves and there is no end in sight.
Now it has the third incomprehensible sacking of a coach in a short space of time. A very high quality coach, Marcelino kicked Valencia back up in 2018, taking them to the Top Four twice in a row and even winning the Copa del Rey in 2019.
Only, owner Peter Lim completely incomprehensibly sacked Marcelino after three rounds of the new season, just a few months after winning the CdR.
In 2021, he introduced rising coaching star Jose Bordalas as the leader of a new era, the hugely popular coach among fans even without reinforcements pulled Valencia out of relegation battles to 9th place and even took them to the Copa del Rey final.
But that wasn’t enough for Lima and he sacked him after the season. He broke the news via text message while he was in Singapore negotiating with Gennaro Gattuso behind the backs of the rest of the management. He brought him in as Valencia’s new coach, but even that star name didn’t get the time.
But that’s exactly what every coach needs. Especially at a club as unstable and broken as Valencia. Gattuso has dropped out of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals and is just one point clear of relegation from 14th place in La Liga.
Game-wise it is not such a disaster, Valencia have the second highest ball possession after Barcelona, but they are missing goals and on the contrary the defence is making individual mistakes.
But who is going to voluntarily enter a merry-go-round like Valencia? What quality coach would sign up Lima when he knows he’ll be sacked in a few months with no problem? Nobody is going to move to Mestalla now.
