Wednesday’s football programme will offer a duel within the TOP 6 of the Spanish La Liga. Betis Sevilla will challenge Barcelona on their soil and try to put the brakes on their uncompromising run at the top of the table. What to expect from the match?
Betis is not doing too well after the national break, winning only one of the last four matches and dropping out of the League Cup and Super Cup. They are sixth in the table, three points behind the top four guaranteeing the Champions League with a game to spare.
Barcelona, on the other hand, have won the entire Super Cup and have won their last eight matches across all competitions. The post-Christmas period is its best of the season so far. It is starting to run away from Real Madrid in the table, already five points behind them from first place.
Betis’ key figures
Betis relies on experienced Spanish striker Borja Iglesias, author of nine goals and four assists. Summer signing and talented Brazilian winger Luiz Henrique has scored three times so far and added five assists.
Barcelona’s key figures
Summer signing from Bayern Munich Robert Lewandowski has 22 goals and five assists. Spanish midfielder Gavi has been a revelation this season, scoring once and assisting five times so far.
Betis are not doing well in attack. Out of the Top 7 guaranteeing European Cups, it has the worst offense in La Liga with 20 shots, scoring only one goal in the last two games, while playing against mediocre Espanyol and Getafe.
Moreover, Barcelona is the defensive champion of the competition. It has scored just six goals, an average of one goal per three rounds. It has kept a clean sheet for four consecutive games, most recently scoring the winning goal in the Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
Considering the incredible form of Barcelona’s defense and the great well-being of the team, as well as the offensive woes of the home team, I think the visitors will confirm their role as favorites, win and, at least until Thursday, increase their lead at the top of the table again.
