Chelsea is the most active team of the winter transfer window so far. The Blues are currently tracking PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke. However, there is a big exclamation mark hovering over him, highlighting his health problems.
Chelsea have embarked on a big shopping spree this winter. It brought winger Mykhayl Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for a whopping €100m, alongside investing in striker Datr Fofana and stopper Benoît Badiashile.
The Blues’ management is also eyeing 20-year-old Englishman Noni Madueke. The Under-21 international has appeared in nine games this season for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, scoring two goals.
The weak portion of the game was due to an ankle injury that has been dragging Madueke since the start of training. He did not get into match practice for the first time this season until the end of October, but Eindhoven only got five points out of a possible 15 in his presence.
Moreover, last year’s long break caused by injury was certainly not accidental. Since the 2018/19 season, Madueke has been unavailable due to injury for 285 days, a very high number for a 20-year-old player.
Even worse, he has missed four different seasons due to muscle injuries in the last year and a half, which also doesn’t bode well for a young player. Since the start of the 2021/22 season, muscle problems have cost him 25 games.
So whether the talented winger contributed to 15 PSV goals last season (9+6), the injury history doesn’t play into his transfer hands.
The Blues are currently in need of a healthy and durable player, especially with a glance at the sick leave.
