VIDEO: Hložek’s great assist took the whole defense out of the game
Adam Hložek couldn’t have asked for a better return to the Bundesliga. The Czech international contributed to Leverkusen’s 3:2 win over Monchengladbach with a great assist. His pass was cleaned up by another talent.
Adam Hložek couldn’t have asked for a better return to the Bundesliga. The Czech international contributed to Leverkusen’s 3:2 win over Monchengladbach with a great assist. His pass was cleaned up by another talent.
Leverkusen followed up their two wins and good performance in the 22nd minute when left back Michel Bakker scored. Although the home side kept the ball and conquered the Reds’ defence, a 43rd-minute turnover spelled further disaster.
Leverkusen played a cross through Adam Hložek, who with a cross from a volley and a blind pass, stymied the entire defensive line and another youngster, Amine Adli, ran at the goalkeeper alone. He finished his solo shot and the goalkeeper had no chance.
The second goal calmed Bayer down, Nadiem Amiri added a third in the 67th minute, and although the experienced Larst Stindl reduced the score to 2:3 with two shots, the away side took the lead and added an important three points to the table.
It was Hložek’s sixth point in competitive matches for Leverkusen. He has two goals and four assists and after a slow start his performance has been steadily improving since November. And that’s good for the Czech national team as well.
Leverkusen are currently as high as ninth in the table, but only five points away from seventh place, which guarantees Europa League conference qualification. They will have a busy schedule in the spring, with Europa League play-off matches to look forward to alongside the league.
