VIDEO: Zidane style goal. The Frenchman scored a beautiful goal with a volley from a turn with his weaker foot
Not many people could pull off such acrobatic stunts. Karim Benzema has shown in the past that he is an exceptional striker. The Real Madrid forward showed it again on Sunday in the duel with Athletic when he scored this beautiful goal from a turn.
Not many people could pull off such acrobatic stunts. Karim Benzema has shown in the past that he is an exceptional striker. The Real Madrid forward showed it again on Sunday in the duel with Athletic when he scored this beautiful goal from a turn.
Karim Benzema had the season of his life last year. His goals took Real Madrid to the Champions League and La Liga, he was virtually unstoppable and his work was awarded the Ballon d’Or.
But in the autumn, an injury sidelined Benzema for a long time, and he also missed out on the World Cup. Along with that came a drop in form, the question was whether Benzema could build on his performances of last year.
And while performance-wise it is still not ideal, at least shooting-wise the Frenchman is back to normal. After the World Cup break, he has scored six times in six games and has registered four goals in three league games. Apart from the cup with Villarreal, he has scored in every game.
On Sunday night, Real Athletic Club awaited, a very unpleasant club from Bilbao, who create a very inhospitable environment for the visitors at their San Mamés stadium.
Even with the frenetic atmosphere, the home side tried to put a lot of pressure on the visitors, but this was blunted by Karim Benzema in the 24th minute.
Valverde’s centre tried to turn away the home side, but the ball stayed in the air and Benzema volleyed a weak left-footed shot towards the bar. It reminded a few fans slightly of Zidane’s famous volley in the Champions League final against Leverkusen.
Real Madrid then added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Toni Kroos scored. In an important match, Real Madrid won 2-0 and can now prepare for Thursday’s cup match against Atlético Madrid.
