The White Ballet are struggling after the World Cup. The result is a poor game and poor results. However, after losing to Villarreal, the Royal Club’s footballers have at least slightly improved their taste by advancing to the final. Even in this case, we certainly can’t talk about a clear-cut performance.

The bitter aftertaste of losing the last league game was exacerbated by the news of the last few days. Real will be missing two indispensable pillars of the starting line-up, David Alaba and summer signing Aurélien Tchouaméni, for at least three weeks. In an already busy schedule, this is a huge loss.

The match was evenly matched, as evidenced by the statistics. Certainly can’t say that either club dominated. Shortly before the end of the first half, Karim Benzema gave Real the lead. In his case, it was the eighth game in a row in which he scored against Valencia.

Carlo Ancelotti, coaching his 200th game as Real Madrid coach, did not enjoy the lead for long as the Bats equalised immediately after the start of the second half. Toni Lata sent a fluffy centre into the box which was capitalised on by Samuel Lino

Vinícius Júnior had the best chance to decide the game in the fifth minute of the set time, when he got to a deflected ball that he fired only into the goalkeeper. The match went into extra time where nothing major happened and penalty kicks had to be taken.

In these, all Real Madrid players were successful in turn. Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio all scored with ease. Valencia players were worse off, missing twice. Firstly, defender Comert shot over the bar and captain Gaya put an end to all hope.

A minor blemish on the joy of progressing to the final may be that Modric replaced Camavinga for health reasons in the second half. Camavinga was caught on the bench with an ice pack on his knee. Another loss would be a huge problem for Real.

Will we see the famous El Clásico in the final?

The Super Cup itself may offer us an interesting upset. If Barcelona manage their match against Betis and advance to the final, we will see the match that all football fans love. On Sunday we could already witness another El Clásico.
