Manchester United, after their Premier League run after the World Cup, never ceases to surprise. Across all competitions, they have already racked up 7 wins in a row, most recently beating reigning champions Manchester City in the Premier League. What is behind the Red Devils’ phase?
Casemiro
When he arrived in the summer, there were a few knocks on the forehead. After the World Cup, he showed why he was in the starting line-up of the most successful club in the world for seven years and that he really is the best defensive midfielder in the world.
He is absolutely perfect in his defensive work, he wins a lot of balls, controls the vast majority of duels and clears the space in front of the defence perfectly. Out of the seven games he played after the World Cup, he played 6 in the starting lineup and United kept 4 clean sheets and only got 2 goals. And that’s mostly to Casemiro’s credit as well.
Plus, he can help the team offensively as well. He is excellent in the midfield, in the mentioned 7 games he scored 1 goal and 3 assists. He has also transferred his warrior and winning mentality to the team, he is a true leader. The best United transfer in years.
Marcus Rashford
Another huge contributor to Manchester United’s form is Marcus Rashford. The club’s ward has had a rocketing start to the A-team, after which he was also the club’s driving force and best player. However, the decline came and he had a dismal season last season, scoring only four times and was extremely criticised for his performances and chances he burnt.
But after the World Cup came a revival. He was already putting in decent performances in Qatar, and he completely turned it around after his return to Carrington. He scored in all seven games and has an overall record of 8+2.
At 25, he has found his lost form, which has been absent for the last season and a half. United have scored 17 goals in seven games since the World Cup, 10 of which have come from Rashford. Huge form.
Ronaldo’s departure?
There has also been a lot of speculation as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has helped the team to clear the cabin. That’s hard for outsiders to judge, we can’t see into the cabin if the atmosphere has relaxed. But at least the weight has been lifted off the whole club, there is no longer a constant question of whether Ronaldo is playing or not and his every move.
