Núñez as Lewandowski? Liverpool boss defends him despite scorched chances, Polish cannonballer said to have had a similar period
Darwin Nunez came to Anfield Road as a big signing. He has been widely compared to Erling Haaland, who shines in a Manchester City jersey. However, the Uruguayan striker doesn’t score that many goals at Liverpool, instead he burns a bunch of chances. What does his coach Jürgen Klopp have to say?

However, the Uruguayan striker doesn’t score that many goals at Liverpool, instead he burns a bunch of chances. What does his coach Jürgen Klopp have to say?
Liverpool brought in Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez for €80 million in the summer. However, he is far from building on his numbers and performances from Portugal’s Benfica. While he scored 32 competitive goals last season, he scored only 9 in the current one.
His numbers could have been much better, he is getting a lot of big chances, but he is wasting them. In the last game against Aston Villa, for example, he missed five chances.
So the fans are criticising him and the media is lively about his form. But coach Jürgen Klopp is standing up for him.
He even compared him to the star Robert Lewandowski, whom he managed at Borussia Dortmund.
“To be honest, there are many similarities between them. Lewa could tell the same story. We had shooting sessions where he couldn’t score once,” Goal quoted the German coach as saying.
“We made bets for 10 euros depending on whether he scored more than 10 times. My pocket was full of money,” he added.
Among other things, Klopp highlighted the Uruguayan’s potential in particular, which he said is more than clearly visible. However, he still has to learn how to handle different situations properly. But that, according to the German coach, is yet to come.
