A player like Zinedine Zidane will probably never be born again. A footballer with such elegance and graceful technique, who was a joy to watch, was simply unique. So let’s reminisce about some of his magic.
Zinedine Zidane began his career in Cannes. He made his debut in 1988 and lasted in the A-team for four years, in which he appeared in 61 matches. His talent was undeniable and so in 1992 came a move to Bordeaux.
There he played 139 games in four years and ranked among the best players in the world. His first transfer abroad. In Italy, he was scouted by Juventus Turin, where he was indeed the best player in the world.
In 1998 he won the Ballon d’Or, and in the same year he also dominated the World Cup with France and the Serie A with Juventus, falling in the Champions League final.
In 2001, he moved to Real Madrid, where he has already fulfilled this dream of winning the trophy. And he did it in the very first season after arriving in Spain. In the final, he also contributed one of the best goals in Champions League history when he volleyed the ball into the Leverkusen net with his weak left foot.
But if anything describes Zidane perfectly, it’s his incredible technique. Few players in the world have had such a first touch with the ball as Zidane. It was the same with his tackles, after all, there is a tackle named after the Frenchman – the “zidane tackle”.
So sit back and reflect on the best of Zidane’s career. A player who wouldn’t be lost in today’s modern football.
