Vesely is going to have a very difficult return to the courts! He is still falling down the ATP rankings
The last time Jiri Vesely introduced himself to tennis fans was last year at the US Open, since then he has not entered a competitive match. He has been suffering from a hamstring injury, which has caused him to fall down the ATP rankings. Returning to the courts will be very difficult for Novak Djokovic’s conqueror.
The twenty-nine year old native of Pribram played his last match on 30 August 2022. At the US Open, he faced Daniel Evans, and the Briton won without much difficulty after 6:4, 6:1 and 6:1 sets.
It is not surprising, as Jiri Vesely has been troubled by hamstring problems for some time, which became apparent during the July tournament in Newport. Veselý successfully managed the first round in that environment, but he did not enter the fight with Johnson.
He took a month break and then participated in the Vancouver Challenger. Here the Czech tennis player also dropped out in the second round, this time he was outclassed by Giles Simon. A week later he lost to Aidan May, a player ranked as high as fifth in the ATP rankings, in Granby.
Understandably, there had to be a forced break. The 2013 Davis Cup winner said on his Instagram profile that he will do everything he can to be ready for the new season. However, he failed to do so.
Vesely continues to wait for his opening match in the 2023 calendar year. This is the reason why he continues to fall down the ATP rankings. In the latest edition, he can be found as high as 499th with a score of 76 points.
The player who was ranked 35th in the past is undoubtedly facing a very tough comeback. At least at the beginning he will have to tour smaller tournaments to get into optimal shape. At the more prestigious events, he could subsequently receive a wild card, which ensures that the tennis player does not have to face qualification battles.
It is not yet clear when the former Czech number one will return to tennis. However, he is currently dealing with very pleasant worries, as he became a father for the third time on March 28.
