It’s finally here! Roman Stanek is officially moving to Formula 2. How did he feel about moving up to the next category?

What has been speculated for a long time has finally become a reality. Roman Staněk will race in Formula 2 next year and the Czech Republic will be represented in this junior category again after eleven years!

Czech racer Roman Stanek has a real challenge ahead of him. After three years in Formula 3, he is finally moving up to the FIA Formula 2 category.

Stanek finished the 2022 season with 117 points to finish fifth in the Drivers’ Championship, while Trident finished second in the Constructors’ Cup with 391 points.

The most successful season in Formula 3 for Stanek was the last one. In 2022, he won at Imola and finished second three times. He won the main race in Barcelona, then Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and the sprint race also in Spa.

Statements by Stanek and Trident manager Giacomo Ricci

“I am very excited to be working with Trident again this year. I am already working with the team and Giacomo, who is a great mentor for me, to achieve our goals together. It will be a year full of challenges and I am ready for it,” said the Czech pilot in an official team statement.

“We are happy to continue working with Roman Stanek and to be his partner in his transition to the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which is always a crucial step in a driver’s career, ” the Trident team manager said.

“I think that moving within the same organisation is an important added value in terms of continuity. Stanek knows the team very well and we will be able to support him in the best possible way. Stanek had a remarkable 2022 season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident Motorsport and I think he has all the ingredients to continue to perform at a high level this year,” Ricci added.

Another Czech driver in F2

Czech fans can look forward to a busy next F2 season. Thanks to Stanek, the Czech Republic will once again be represented in Formula 2 after eleven years.

At that time, Josef Král, who was vying for a place in Formula 1, was active in this category. However, this did not work out and his rival Marcus Ericsson finally won the ticket to the queen of motorsport.

In the upcoming season, Formula 2 will run 28 races over 14 weekends. The 2023 season then kicks off on 4 March at the Bahrain circuit. Stanek’s teammate for next year’s season will be Clément Novalak.
