The United Cup kicks off on Wednesday night. It will be played in Australia, specifically in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. The teams are divided into six groups of three, with only the winner advancing each time.
They will play the winner of the other group from the same city in the knockout stage. The better of the two will advance to the semi-finals. The last available place in the semi-finals will be taken by the best of the teams that are defeated.
The newly created team competition, which will be unique, will have an endowment of 15 million US dollars. Players will also be able to earn ATP or WTA ranking points. So it is definitely a great preparation for the new season.
The Czech Republic has been drawn in Group C, where it will face very tough opponents. Germany is the third in the bunch.
The Czech Republic will be represented by Petra Kvitova, Marie Bouzkova, Jesika Malečková, Jiří Lehečka, Tomáš Macháč and Dalibor Svrčina. A duel for second place with Germany can be expected, with Alexander Zverev, Oscar Otte and Laura Siegemund.
The clear favourite to advance to the final round is the USA, led by Taylor Fritz. He is joined by Frances Tiafoe, Denis Kudla, Hunter Reese, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Desirae Krawczyk and also Alycia Parks, a discovery of recent months.
The USA can benefit from a very wide and balanced squad that can go very far. However, the Polish squad is not without a chance, as they will rely on Hubert Hurkacze and Iga Swiatek.
