Linda Nosková is a freshly eighteen years old Czech hopeful, who is having a great time and has gotten into great shape at the turn of the year. At the WTA500 event in Adelaide, Australia, Linda not only made it through a tough qualifying round, but even took on the number three seed and world number eight, Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, in the first round of the main draw!
Linda also had to qualify because her current 102nd position does not guarantee her direct entry. It wasn’t easy either. Anna Kalinskaya was the first of the Russian opponents to face her.
That’s world number 58. The young Czech managed to dominate the match and turn it around after sets 3::6, 6::2 and 7::6. Linda showed maturity and strong nerves with a dramatic ending.
Next up was Anastasia Potapova. She is still 15 places higher than Kalinskaya. Nevertheless, the match was clear, 3::6 and 2::6 in favour of the Czech.
Linda was not the favourite in either match, yet she managed to win three times. In the first round of the main draw she even defeated the world number eight, Daria Kasatkina!
This time after sets 3::6 7::6 and 3::6. This is definitely the most valuable scalp so far and an amazing result!
The form seems to be absolutely great and it definitely might not stay with participation in the second round, although even that is a beautiful achievement!
Linda will face her first non-Russian opponent in the eighth round, the better of the pair of Claire Liu from the USA and Priscilla Hon from home.
