Preparations for the Australian Open are in full swing. These days, the WTA tournaments in Adelaide and Auckland are underway, where Czech tennis players have also entered the singles competitions. After Linda Noskova got past Daria Kasatkina at the Australian event, Markéta Vondroušová also advanced to the second round. Karolina Pliskova lost, as did the other Czechs participating in the New Zealand event.

Vondrousova faced Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova on the courts in the capital of South Australia early Tuesday morning our time. The native of Sokolov lost the first set 4:6, but managed to turn the match around.

Her compatriots in Auckland, New Zealand, did not fare as well. Three Czechs left the WTA 250 level ASB Classic after the opening round.

First, Brenda Fruhvirtova lost to Canadian Leyla Fernandez twice 1::6 in the early hours of Monday morning CET. After that, Tereza Martincova played a more even match with Austrian Julia Grabherova, but still lost 7::5, 1::6 and 2::6.

Linda Fruhvirt followed up her younger sister’s defeat in the next day’s program. In the end, however, the 17-year-old Czech left the court as a loser, as she lost the following sets 4:6 and 2:6.

However, at least Karolína Muchová can make domestic tennis fans happy at this event. Her first round match is yet to be played, as it was interrupted due to rain.
