Pliskova is experiencing a gradual fall in the rankings. Her best finish this year was in the semifinals of the 1000 in Toronto. Bajin has led Pliskova since November 2020.
but the 30-year-old Czech fired him after falling out in the second round of this year’s Wimbledon.
Leoš Friedl finished the season with the experienced player as coach. “I thank Leoš very much for his immediate help. I think we managed to get some interesting results under his guidance,” said Pliskova.
Her team will also continue to include fitness specialist Jez Green and physiotherapist Martin Salvador. Friedl was already the eighth coach of Pliskova since 2014. Bajin lasted the longest of all of them during that period.
“I’m coming back mainly because I still believe I can help Karolina with my insights,” the 38-year-old former coach of Naomi Osaka and Kristina Mladenovic was quoted as saying.
Pliskova’s first big test will come at the Adelaide tournament, which starts on January 1. It will be followed by the Australian Open, which starts on January 16.
Let’s see if the renewed cooperation will pay off for Pliskova and she will get back into good shape.
