Holger Rune is only 19 years old Danish tennis player. He is currently ranked 27th in the ATP rankings. However, we can expect to see him move into the top ten in the near future.
The calendar year 2022 is a breakthrough year for him. Although he recorded 75 wins in the previous year, most of them were in Challenger category tournaments. This year, he’s only playing the most prestigious events.
His greatest achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open, where he was knocked out by later finalist Casper Ruud. It is also worth mentioning the final at the tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, where Rune was defeated by Huesler after 4:6 and 6:7 sets.
His opponent on Friday will be 27-year-old Briton Cameron Norrie. He is currently ranked 14th in the ATP rankings, with his career best being eighth in September this year.
The Indian Wells winner from last year is still in contention for the Tournament of Champions. He is currently 485 points away from eighth place, not an insurmountable task given the schedule in the coming weeks.
Friday will be the fourth match between these players, all of which have been played this year. Holger Rune hasn’t found a successful recipe for his opponent yet and thanks to Norrie’s motivation, that shouldn’t change now.
