The final Billie Jean King Cup tournament is coming up and now the full schedule for the event has been revealed. Of course, the Czechs will not be missing, having made it through the qualifying round in which they defeated Great Britain. They will now face a team that will be led into battle by the current world number one ranked team.
In addition to the full programme, the organisers have also announced the venue. This is the Scottish city of Glasgow and the Emirates Arena. The first matches will start on November 8, the day after the Champions Tournament and the culmination is scheduled for November 13.
The final round of the BJK Cup is divided into four groups into which 12 teams have been drawn. In this case, the Czechs are facing a very tough group. They will be up against the Polish and the Americans. The Slovaks, who are also in the final, will play against the Australians and Belgians in Group B.
For the Czechs, the programme starts on Thursday, 10 November, when they face Poland. The Czechs will play the Americans the following day on Friday. One team from each group will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday and the tournament will end with the final match on Sunday 13 November.
In the qualification it was a tough fight for Petr Palá’s selection, which had to be decided only by the final doubles match, in which the pair Karolína Muchová/Markéta Vondoušová managed to win a qualification point.
It was the Poles who had a much easier path to the final round. The Romanians, without their biggest star Simona Halep, could not compete with the pair of Šwiatek and Linette. And it is the current world number one who should once again become the mainstay of the Polish national team.
The nomination is still a long way off. In the match against Great Britain the following line-up was available: Vondoušová, Martincová, Muchová, Bouzková and Fruhvirtová.
