The quarter-finals open at 2 p.m. with the match of Barbora Krejcikova, whose eighth-place opponent Belinda Bencic withdrew before the match due to a leg injury. The Ivančice native will try to make it through to the semi-finals against American Alycia Parks, who defeated Maria Sakkari after a three-set drama.
After that, the main favourite Iga Świąteková will take the court. The number one player in the WTA rankings will challenge the 151st player, Caty McNally of the USA. The star Pole from the previous stage of the tournament advanced after the scratch of Ajla Tomljanovic, the 20-year-old tennis player from Ohio after a 2: 1 victory over Karolina Muchova.
We can expect an even match between Petra Kvitova and Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, the 20th and 26th women in the current singles rankings.
The two-time Wimbledon champion knocked out the top-seeded Paula Badosa in the eighth round after sets of 7::6 and 6::4, while the winner of this year’s grass grand slam took on Alyaksandra Sasnovic in a three-set showdown.
Tereza Martincova, whose opponent and last year’s trophy holder Anett Kontaveit gave up early in the second set of their mutual duel, also continues to play at the AGEL Open 2022. The Czech, who is ranked 78th in the WTA rankings, will challenge Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Russian, currently ranked 21st, defeated her compatriot Daria Kasatkina 6-1 and 7-6 on Thursday.
The WTA 250 Jasmin Open in Monastir, Tunisia, is taking place alongside the event at the Ostravar Arena.
The quarter-finals of the singles matches will be played there, with Zidanshekova – Cornet, Parry – Kudermetova, Dzhaburova – Liu and Uchijima – Mertens.
Live coverage of both events will be broadcast by O2 TV Tennis, while the matches in Ostrava can still be watched on O2 TV Sport. The semi-finals of the tennis events on the hard courts in Ostrava and Monastir will take place on Saturday, and the final on Sunday.
