Sunday afternoon will offer the finals of the third edition of the popular AGEL Open tennis tournament, which is played in Ostravar Arena. Barbora Krejčíková and Iga Šwiateková from Poland will clash. Who will be happy to win the valuable trophy?

Although Iga Šwiatek only celebrated her 21st birthday in May this year and has most of her career still ahead of her, it would be hard to find a better player at the moment. This is evidenced by her top spot in the WTA rankings, where she has a lead of more than 5000 points over second-placed Ons Jabeur.

The Polish tennis player has already won seven titles this year, triumphing at the French Open and the US Open, among others. Her match record is 60 wins and only seven losses, which only confirms her incredible dominance.

She played three matches in Ostrava and all of them were quite even. At the beginning of the tournament she defeated Tomljanovic, who called the match off at 5:7 and 2:2. She followed it up with a scalp of McNally after 6:4 and 6:4 sets. In the semi-final she struggled the most, but after 7::6, 2::6 and 6::4 she defeated Alexandrova.

On Sunday she will face her first ever home player, Barbora Krejcikova. The twenty-six year old native of Ivancice is currently ranked 23rd in the WTA rankings, but in the event of a triumph on Sunday she would move up to 14th.

It seemed that the 2022 season would not be optimal for Barbora Krejcikova. But that is starting to change as she claimed her debut trophy at the WTA 250 in Tallinn, Estonia last week and can now triumph in front of her own fans.

If she follows up her semi-final performance against Rybakina, who didn’t even have enough to advance with 17 aces, she will certainly not be without a chance in the final. However, the statistics of their matches speak against the Czech player, as she was not successful even once out of two attempts.

However, she was also the outsider last week against Kontaveit, whom she defeated 6:2 and 6:3 after a convincing performance. Czech fans would probably not be angry if she followed up this result at the AGEL Open.
