On Thursday afternoon, the second half of the eight-final matches will be played in Gijon, Spain. Sebastian Korda will face Roberto Bautista-Agut in one of them. Will the home tennis player enjoy the victory?
Sebastian Korda is a 22-year-old American tennis player with Czech roots. He is currently ranked 47th in the ATP rankings. However, his career high is the thirtieth position from May this year.
His greatest successes have been on the hard surface, where he has a positive record of seventeen wins and eleven losses this year. Especially noteworthy are the scalps of Cameron Norrie, Grigor Dimitrov, Karen Khachanov and Frances Tiafoe.
At the tournament in Gijon, which is being held for the first time, he faced the home team’s Jaume in the opening round. After a convincing performance, he was able to enjoy a 6:4 and 6:1 victory, without offering his opponent a single break point opportunity.
But on Thursday he will face a tougher opponent, the tournament’s number three Roberto Bautista-Agut. The thirty-four-year-old Spanish player is currently ranked 22nd on the ATP rankings, however, he was ranked ninth in November 2019.
Since 2016, this experienced tennis player has dominated nine events, eight of which were on hard surfaces. In recent times, Cerundolo, Auger-Aliassime or Kecmanovic have witnessed his good performance.
On Thursday, the second match between these players will take place. In the first one (2021, Halle – grass) Sebastian Korda was more successful, winning after sets 6::3 and 7::6. Now, however, Bautista-Agut could get his first win thanks to his better form and home environment.
