A dangerous moment indeed! On Sunday 18 September, the MotoGP Royal Cubature had its fifteenth round of the season on the schedule, namely the Aragon Grand Prix. And it already brought a terrible crash in its opening lap for Fabio Quartara or Takaaki Nakagami.

After a great battle, the Aragon Grand Prix was finally dominated by Enea Bastianini, who pulled off a great overtaking manoeuvre on the last lap to take the lead from Francesco Bagnaia.

However, the start of the race brought huge drama as the fans witnessed two crashes. Firstly, Quartararo collided with Márquez on the exit of Turn 3, a crash that fortunately was avoided without serious injury.

In a post-race interview, Marc Márquez apologised to the reigning champion. The Spanish rider, who returned to MotoGP after almost four months following surgery on his right arm, did not handle the exit of Turn 3 perfectly, his rear wheel slipped and he had to tame his bike.

However, it was not the Frenchman Quartararo who had counted on that, as he crashed into Márquez and suffered a very scary looking crash. And although it was a painful crash, the Yamaha pilot will be able to start the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.

Márquez, however, caused one more crash on the first lap, and that was at Turn 8. The Repsol Honda driver slowed too much and was rear-ended by non-factory Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami.

Subsequently, this made for another very dangerous moment as a number of drivers had to avoid the Japanese rider. And fortunately, this too was without serious injury.

According to the latest reports, Nakagami suffered a small tear in the tendon of his little finger from that accident and at the moment it is unclear whether he will start Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix. Márquez subsequently withdrew from the race.

However, no one else dropped out of the Aragon Grand Prix. So, as we wrote above, Bastianini took the victory from the 15th race of the season, with Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro accompanying him on the podium.

So what did the Aragon Grand Prix do to the drivers’ championship? Quartararo is still the leader, but he only has a ten-point lead over second-placed Bagnaia. You can see the full provisional standings in the attached Twitter post below.
