The men’s participation is more modest than the women’s. After quickly dropping out of the singles bracket, Jiri Lehecka and Jiri Vesely will try to achieve a better result together. They’ll face the home team of Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow.
We will find more of our tennis players among the doubles players. The women’s doubles in Flushing Meadows will feature two purely Czech pairs.
In the newly formed duo, Linda Noskova will play alongside the experienced Lucie Hradecka, who had to hastily find someone else to join her due to an injury to her originally planned teammate Indka Mirza. And an interesting match awaits them, as they will face the Serena and Venus Williams sisters.
The other pair, made up of compatriots from the Czech Republic, is the matched pair of Barbora Krejcikova, Kateřina Siniaková. The top three seeds will be looking for their sixth joint Grand Slam title after withdrawing from the recent tournament in Cleveland due to Siniakova’s back injury. They will start with a duel with Romanians Niculescu and Ruse.
The other Czechs taking part are Marie Bouzkova, who along with Germany’s Laura Siegemund will face tournament No. 7s Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan of China.
The women’s doubles tournament will also feature Tereza Martincova, who will play alongside Russia’s Alexandra Panova. In the first round, they will challenge the Argentine-Egyptian duo of Nadia Podoroska, Mayar Sharif.
One day later on Thursday, September 1, another doubles tournament at the US Open begins, the mixed doubles. Czech tennis is represented here as well, as Lucie Hradecka will play against Polish player Łukasz Kubot.
The two experienced players will face the eighth seeded pair, Demi Schuurs and Matwe Middelkoop from the Netherlands.
