LIV Golf will write the fourth sequel. New PGA defectors to appear in Boston

On Friday, the fourth tournament of the LIV Golf series will start at The International Golf Club in Boston. The biggest attraction is the starting field, which has expanded to include six more elite players who until recently played in the FedEx Cup playoffs on the PGA Tour. The LIV Golf Invitational Boston thus promises to be an interesting spectacle in which the big money will once again be on the line.

Just two days before the start of the tournament, the LIV Golf organization officially announced six new names, making the starting field for the LIV Golf Invitational Boston significantly more attractive. The biggest catch is the previously announced Australian golfer Cameron Smith.

This makes him the highest-ranked player in the world rankings, which LIV CEO Greg Norman managed to outbid. Cameron Smith occupies the second position on this ranking behind the world number one Scottie Scheffler.

“Money was a big factor, but certainly not the biggest reason I took the offer. It was obviously a business decision and an offer I couldn’t ignore,” Golf Extra quoted Smith as saying.

But as the twenty-nine-year-old Australian subsequently said, finances were far from the only factor: “Themost important thing for me is the LIV Golf tournament calendar, which is really appealing to me. I will be able to spend more time at home in Australia. That wasn’t possible with the schedule I had,” he said of his decision to join the “rebel” golf company.

But the winner of the last The Open is far from alone in rebuilding under the LIV banner for the first time since Friday in Boston. Along with him, compatriot Marc Leishman is heading for a new adventure. They may not appear on the PGA Tour again, but it will be pleasing to hear from the PGA of Australia that both players are eligible to play in the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship.

Others in the bunch who have high-fived with LIV Golf are Joaquin Niemann (Chile), Harold Varner, Cameron Tringale (both USA) and Indian pro Anirban Lahiri. These players will further expand the already internationally packed LIV roster.

The Boston starting field features seven players who are number one in their respective countries. Many of them have won numerous tournaments on the PGA Tour in the past, including majors. Four of them have been ranked #1 in the world in the past and thirteen players have competed in the Olympics.

“LIV Golf is showing the world that our truly global league is attracting the best players in the world and will grow the game into the future for the next generation,” praises Norman of the diverse starting field. This too is proof that LIV Golf wants to become a globally recognised institution, with fans all over the planet.

“We can’t wait to head to The International this week and bring fans another unforgettable event experience,” reports the LIV boss excitedly. In total, the tournament will feature the traditional 48 players who will be divided into 12 teams.

And that motivation is taken care of! The total amount to be distributed to the players after Sunday’s round in Boston is $25 million, with the winner receiving a check for $4 million. The tournament can be watched live on the LIV Golf website, YouTube and Facebook.
