110. the first part of the final phase of the famous tennis competition, called the Davis Cup Finals 2022, will take place in September. All sixteen teams that have the opportunity to compete for the “salad bowl” have announced their nominations. The Czechs failed to qualify from the March qualifier against Argentina and will now face Israel in the so-called World Group 1.
There are four final groups and they will be played at different venues. From September 13 to 18, Bologna, Italy, Valencia, Spain, Hamburg, Germany, and Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, will see elite national tennis.
The top two teams from each of the foursomes will advance to play each other in a knockout fashion from the quarter-finals at the final tournament in Málaga from 22-27 November.
There will be no shortage of star names in the group fights. The losers of last year’s final, which was dominated this year by the eliminated Russians, are the Croatians, who have Marin Cilic in their ranks. Novak Djokovic will headline the Serbian team.
For the first time since 2019, Britain’s Andy Murray will play in the Davis Cup. We can look forward to the young Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, whose teammates include Rafael Nadal. In the Italian team we can find Berrettini or Sinner.
The defeated Czech team from Argentina have Diego Schwartzman in their midst. The current highest-ranked tennis player on the ATP singles rankings who is nominated for the group stage, in the absence of Russia’s Medvedev, is Germany’s Alexander Zverev. Meanwhile, the world number two is still recovering from a serious ankle injury from this year’s French Open.
Check out the full rosters of the top 16 countries in this year’s Davis Cup below. For comparison, the players’ current singles ranking is listed. However, some tennis players are doubles specialists or have better results in this tennis discipline, and so the ranking in the doubles ranking is next to their name.
