The WRC is currently scheduled for its seventh event of the season, namely the Estonian Rally. The rally in Tartu, however, resulted in a very serious crash for Joosep Ralf Nõgene, who escaped without any serious injuries.

The nineteen-year-old Estonian driver is not competing in the WRC, but in the FIA European Junior Championship, which is now heading to Estonia together with the senior competition.

However, Nõgene will not finish the event after crashing dangerously on Sunday morning’s stage.

Nõgene and his co-driver and co-pilot Aleks Leks escaped without serious injuries.

It should be noted, the Estonian Rally is one of the toughest events to be found on the WRC calendar this season.

The seventh round of this season is currently being run by the championship leader, Finn Rovanperä, whose closest pursuer, Elfyn Evans, also made a driving error and is currently over 40 seconds behind the Finnish driver in the service of Toyota.

If Rovanperä successfully completes the Estonian rally, it will be his fifth victory in this year’s WRC season. Sébastien Loeb won one, and the opening rally, while Ott Tänak was victorious in Italy.
