The American giant is the new king of aces! But breaking the record wasn’t enough to win
No one associates the American great John Isner with anything other than his dominant serve. The U.S. representative has now topped the historical charts in the number of aces. Isner scored ace number 13,729 in his Wimbledon third round match against Jannik Sinner.
No one associates the American great John Isner with anything other than his dominant serve. The U.S. representative has now topped the historical charts in the number of aces. Isner scored ace number 13,729 in his Wimbledon third round match against Jannik Sinner.
the 37-year-old player surpassed another big-serving player Ivo Karlovic. The historic moment occurred at 1:1 in games and 15:30 in points. The American subsequently added 20 more aces and is currently at number 13,748.
But even Isner’s great service was not enough in the clash of generations. Jannik Sinner won 3: 0 on sets and advanced to the eighth round. “I wished I could break the record and win at the same time,” Isner reflected after the match.
The statistics on the number of aces have been recorded since 1991. And given that the American giant is not looking to end his career, the record could last him a long time. “I’m actually very proud of that record,” Isner added.
The current world number twenty-six has sixteen ATP tournament titles to his credit. Isner has one more record from London.
In 2010, he played the longest match in tennis history with Nicolas Mahut, winning 70:68 in the fifth set after more than eleven hours.
In that match, Isner played 113 aces, which ended up being more than any other player in the entire tournament.
