Mr. Consistency. Russell maintains a great statistical record at Mercedes
The Fomule 1 season is already in its second third and we can slowly categorize the drivers’ performances. The name of George Russell is definitely worth mentioning. The British Mercedes driver has finished in the Top 5 in each of the nine grand prix races so far, which is why he is currently just fifteen points off third-placed Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ championship.

There was a lot of talk about Russell before the season. Everyone was waiting to see how the young Briton would fare in his new car, alongside seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. But from the start of the season it became clear that the former Williams driver was not afraid of the difficult position.
In fact, in only two Grands Prix has Russell come away defeated by his teammate, at the opener in Bahrain and now in the last race in Canada. All while finishing in the Top 5, which is why he has earned the nickname “Mr. Consistency” across the formula world.
Russell has been helped by a small amount of luck in many of his races. Whether it was safety car retirements or the withdrawal of one of the strong Ferrari and Red Bull foursome, the Briton was ready and deservedly finished high.
One final thing that is definitely worth mentioning is the fantastic reliability of the Mercedes cars. The German stable is the only one in the entire starting field to have completed all nine grand prix events of the 2022 season with both monoposts.
It is that reliability that could play a big part for the pairing of Hamilton and Russell, who would love to have a say in the championship fight.
George Russell, in particular, is the reason for keeping Mercedes in third position for now. And his consistency could be a key factor for the team led by Toto Wolff.
