Czechs at the French Open: Lehečka, Veselý and Martincová say goodbye, Kolář and Pliskova move on

Jiri Lehecka
the 20-year-old talent had a tough draw when he faced the 48th ranked player, Belgian David Goffin, in the first round. The match started very evenly, with the Belgian taking the first set 6:4, Lehečka taking the second set by the same margin. Goffin then won both sets 6::4 and won 3::1.
Zdeněk Kolář
Kolar faced the home team’s Lucas Pouille and celebrated his progress after a three-hour battle. He won the first set 6::3, then lost 4::6, but won the following sets 7::5 and 6::4. In the next round he will face the world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Jiri Vesely
The top-seeded Czech (73rd) challenged the American Johnson and started well, winning the first set in a tiebreak. However, he lost the second set in the same way, then he lost 3::6 and 2::6.
Karolina Pliskova
The eighth player on the WTA rankings started her French Open journey very badly, when 141. Andrianjafitrimo lost the first set 2::6. But then she came back and turned the match around with wins of 6: 3 and 6: 1. In the next round, she will again face the home Frenchwoman, 227th player Leolii Jeanjean.
Tereza Martincova
Martincova (54th) was facing a close match with Shelby Rogers (50th), but the 29-year-old American won 6:4 and 6:3 to advance to the next round.
Czechs in action on Wednesday
Three Czechs are in action on Wednesday, with Marie Bouzkova withdrawing. Karolína Muchová takes on Marie Sakkari at 12:30, Kateřina Siniaková plays Leylah Annie Fernandez at 14:30 and Petra Kvitová challenges Daria Saville at 16:30.
