A great Formula 3 race at the Imola circuit with an even sweeter result for the Czech fans! Roman Staněk gave a great performance at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and took the first victory of his career!
Roman Stanek’s first career victory was decided in the last laps of the race when he overtook Prema Racing’s Oliver Bearman.
The Czech pilot first attacked Bearman on the twenty-second lap, but the sixteen-year-old Briton still held his lead. This was also due to the fact that the race directorate did not allow the use of the DRS system.
A lap later, however, he was close enough to Bearman to overtake him on the run into the first corner and take the top spot in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix! Stanek was able to handle the end of the race with ease, and overall he put in a truly experienced performance.
For the native of Valašské Meziříčí, this is the biggest success of his F3 career so far. Until now, his biggest successes have included two third places from last year at the circuits in Hungary and Belgium.
It should be noted that for the 2022 season, Stanek has switched to the Trident team, which dominated the Constructors’ Cup last year.
In Imola, the Czech driver collected a total of thirty-three points and is currently third in the drivers’ championship behind Arthur Leclerc and Victor Martins, who both have 34 points and are the championship leaders.
A collision between Bearman and Saucy added to the spectacular finish. It was the first-named driver who not only began to lose the lead to Stanek immediately after losing it, but also failed to hold on to second place, which was taken by Jake Crawford.
In addition, Grégoire Saucy attacked Bearman on the last corner of the last lap and contact was made. Yellow flags were still waved at the end of the race at the Imola circuit, but it didn’t make any difference to Stanek’s victory!
After the race, the fans were able to enjoy the Czech national anthem and the sight of the Czech winner of the race, who was on the top step of the podium. As a result of a collision on the last lap, Isack Hadjar took third place, with Bearman finishing fourth.
Leclerc finished fifth in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with Kush Maini crossing the line sixth. Zak O’Sullivan took seventh, Kaylen Frederick eighth, David Vidales ninth and Ido Cohen rounded out the elite ten.
