The comeback is imminent! I feel like I’m gonna play. I can win, said Tiger Woods before the Masters
It looks like golf fans can look forward to a complete entertainment package at this year’s Masters. The questions surrounding the return of the 46-year-old Tiger Woods are taking on a clearer shape. Barring anything unexpected, one of the most famous players in golf history will be playing at Augusta.
It looks like golf fans can look forward to a complete entertainment package at this year’s Masters. The questions surrounding the return of the 46-year-old Tiger Woods are taking on a clearer shape. Barring anything unexpected, one of the most famous players in golf history will be playing at Augusta.
There is no other player around whom there is as much hype as the five-time champion of the world’s most famous golf tournament. Logically. After all, it was only last February that rescue crews rescued him from a wrecked SUV. He lost a leg in a minor accident.
Today, after fourteen months of treatment and painful rehabilitation, he is on his feet again, hitting one ball after another on the practice range as he has done for most of his life.
There has been talk of Tiger Woods starting at the Masters for weeks. Since the fifteen-time major winner had previously withdrawn from the media world, fans have received very little information.
The only thing that has been clear recently is that Tiger is going to Augusta. Although he has been on the start list since the beginning, it wasn’t until Tuesday, two days before the start of the tournament, that he finally talked a bit at a press conference.
“Right now I feel like I’m going to play,” Tiger said when asked repeatedly if fans would see him on the Augusta National Golf Club course. He then added that the very next day he will have another nine-hole practice session before he throws himself into the thick of the battle to don the coveted green jacket for the sixth time in his career.
Speaking to the world’s media, he particularly praised the entire team that helped him make his big comeback on the PGA Tour: “Iwas very excited about how I was gradually recovering each day. My team was fantastic and worked very hard,” he praised.
“Itwas a tough, very tough year and there were a lot of things I had to deal with that I never wish on anyone. But I’m here,” Woods said with enthusiasm.
And with what ambitions will he even go into the 86th Masters with? Understandably, the question of whether he’s fit enough to win the tournament hasn’t escaped him. “I can,” Woods answered succinctly. “I wouldn’t show up at an event if I didn’t think I could win it,” added the most watched man in world golf today.
A few months ago, Tiger Woods said he would probably never be able to return to the fairways of the PGA Tour as a full-fledged player. But he plans to be selective about the events he can appear at. The Masters is, of course, the most ideal tournament for another spectacular comeback.
