Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka was the best ranked player in the ATP rankings at third place. However, after a series of injuries, the experienced tennis player is sinking deeper and deeper in the rankings. Despite this, Wawrinka is constantly fighting to return to the courts.
Stan Wawrinka played his last match more than eleven months ago. Last year, the Swiss managed to play only six matches, since then he has been nursing an injured leg.
No wonder speculation about the end of his career is rife. And no one would be surprised. After all, Wawrinka is 36 years old, so his best years are certainly behind him and he has had a very successful career. Third place in the ATP rankings is proof of that.
However, Wawrinka firmly rejects these speculations. He wants to return to ATP matches at any cost.
“People often ask me why I am still trying so hard to come back after my injury. It’s because tennis is my passion. I love it and everything around it,” the 36-year-old told the Roland Garros website.
It is true that Wawrinka has sacrificed a lot for his comeback. And everything seems to be on track.
In fact, in recent days Wawrinka announced that he would like to return to the courts during the clay part of the season. And if all goes well, he could even play at the Paris Grand Slam at Roland Garros.
