Another shame! Marie Bouzkova failed to reach the final of the WTA tournament

Czech tennis has shown itself in a very good light in recent weeks. Jiri Vesely played an incredible tournament in Dubai, losing in the final to the strong Russian Rubljov. Czech tennis player Marie Bouzkova performed a similar feat in Guadalajara, Mexico, and also reached the final.
However, the promising Czech lost in the third final match between the elite of the WTA rankings. Last year she fell at a tournament in another Mexican city, Monterrey, and the year before in Melbourne, Australia.
In Guadalajara, she has been very successful overall, reaching the final at the WTA 125 tournament held here in 2019 and the semifinals a year later. Here she managed to beat Spain’s Sorribes Torm in the quarterfinals and the former world No. 12 in the semifinals. China’s Wang.
Now, American Sloane Stephens, winner of the US Open in 2017, awaited her in the duel for the top spot, she has not been in the finals of elite tournaments since 2018. On her way, she beat, for example, Czech adult debutant Brenda Fruhvirtova.
Bouzkova started the match very well. She converted her first break point, which came in game 4 and she was already leading 4:1. But then the experienced American worked hard, took back her lost serve in game 7 and turned the match around in the crucial 11th game to win the first set 1: 0.
In the second set, Bouzkova showed that she was a force to be reckoned with, never wavering on her serve, creating six breaks, two of which she converted, and taking the second set 6: 2 – 1: 1.
The decisive third set came next in which the 28-year-old Stephens was much better. Bouzkova was betrayed by her own serve in the 6th and last 8 games – 2::1.
Stephens was able to bring the match to a victorious end. This is her 7th title among the elite. The Czech didn’t make her third appearance in the final, but she won over the fans by speaking in Spanish in the final interview.
Stephens (6-USA) – Bouzkova (CZE) – 7::5, 1::6, 6::2
