The Czech Republic has the winners of the Australian Open! Barbora Krejčíková and Katerina Siniakova dominated a tough final in which they lost the first set, but won the next two and after less than three hours on the court they are celebrating the win.
Barbora Krejčíková and Katerina Siniakova were the favourites of the tournament, which they confirmed on the court all the time as they did not lose a single set until the final match.
However, they failed to do so in their final match against Anna Danilina and Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The Czechs lost the very first set 6::7 and the path to winning the prestigious trophy became more distant, although the Czechs were still the favourites.
The second set ended 6::4 for the Czech pair, as did the third and after a very even battle Krejcikova and Siniakova can celebrate their victory.
It proved that the Czech duo simply dominates the women’s doubles and is not easy to beat.
Siniakova will thus improve her position as the number one in the WTA doubles rankings, with her partner Krejčíková right behind her.
