It’s no big surprise that Casper Ruud will face Diego Schwartzman in the final of the Buenos Aires tournament. They are the two highest ranked players at this event, whose favourite surface is clay. Who will be the winner of this valuable trophy?
Casper Ruud is a 23-year-old tennis player from Norway. He is currently ranked eighth in the ATP rankings, which is also his career high. Last year he managed to win five tournaments, four of which were on clay.
He is also in good form at the start of 2022. At the Buenos Aires tournament, he was able to take on Carballes Baeona, Coria and Delbonis in the semi-finals. Although he has faced two home players, he has not lost a set so far.
Diego Schwartzman is six years older than his final opponent. He currently occupies the fifteenth position on the ATP rankings, but in the past he has also been in the elite ten. However, it is already certain that he will be ahead of Aslan Karatsev in Monday’s edition of the rankings.
Last year Schwartzman won the title on home soil. He defeated Munar, Cerundolo and Sonega on his way to the defence. However, all the matches were very close, with two having to be decided in the third set.
Sunday will see the eighth match between these players. The more successful one so far is Schwartzman, who has been able to enjoy victory on five occasions. He has only twice failed to find a recipe for his opponent.
Despite this negative record, Casper Ruud is the clear favourite. He has been in better form in recent weeks, as evidenced by his results in Buenos Aires.
